STARSkate Assessments

STARSkaters are generally assessed as they complete various elements/skills/dances throughout their learning.  At Skate Kingston, coaches aim to provide training in all disciplines (Skills, FreeSkate, Dance and Artistic) and provide assessments as appropriate.

Questions regarding STARSkate Assessments should be directed to your skater's private coach.

STAR 1 - 5 Assessments AND Coach-Assessed Skills:

• All STAR 1-5 assessments will take place of regular Skate Kingston session ice.
• Note: STAR 6-Gold Skills may be coach-assessed (your skater's private coach must be certified to assess skills on regular Skate Kingston session ice.
• Assessments are completed by the skater's private coach.
• Coaches will provide parents with a slip of paper to identify what the skater will be getting assessed/tested, and when.  This information will be needed to pay for the assessment.
• The fee for assessment is $12 which is provided to Skate Canada to record the results of the assessment.  This fee does not include any private coaching fees provided by the coach.  

STAR 6 - Diamond (High) Assessments:

• Most STAR 6 to Diamond level assessments take place on clear ice outside of regular skating sessions.
• Dates are listed in the Skate Kingston calendars. Schedules are provided to coaches during the week before assessment day. Coaches will provide final schedules to their skaters when available. 
• Assessments are completed by a trained Skate Canada Assessor.
• Coaches will provide parents with a slip of paper to identify what the skater will be getting assessed/tested.
• The fee for high assessment is currently set at $45 for SK home club skaters, and $50 for non-home club skaters.  Please note that this fee includes the $12 per test which is provided to Skate Canada. The remainder of the fee goes to pay for the extra ice time required, and mandatory assessor expenses.
